> Question: The Tattvasiddhi also says that names arise depending on the four great elements; why does its school not say that born of causes is the primary meaning? Explanation: There is a reason. That Tattvasiddhi explains that the four great elements combine to produce sound, and only with the combination of sound can a name be formed; there is an intervening layer of separation, and therefore born of causes is not called the primary meaning. In the Bodhisattvabhūmi and others, it is explained that names arise directly depending on conception, and therefore they say that born of causes is the primary meaning; this cannot be compared as an analog to that.
