> Next is the discussion according to stages. These five, generally speaking, are omnipresent across all bhūmis; differentiated according to their characteristics, their cultivation is prior to the bhūmis and their completion is on the bhūmis. How is this known? As the sūtra states: "When the practice of concentration is completed, one abides in the stage of endurance; when the practice of wisdom is completed, one abides in the immovable stage; when the practice of benevolence is completed, one abides in the stage of regarding beings as an only child with utmost love; when the practice of equanimity is completed, one abides in the stage of emptiness and equality." What is completed is entirely on the first bhūmi and above; this clearly indicates that the locus of cultivation is prior to the bhūmis. Such are the five practices.
