- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [12.64](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1851.12.64)

> Next, the meaning of differences in counteracting hindrances is clarified. Cultivating giving counteracts stinginess; morality counteracts breaking precepts; forbearance counteracts anger; the mind of vigor counteracts indolence; dhyāna counteracts coarse thoughts; and wisdom counteracts ignorance. The first five subdue and sever, while the last one permanently severs. In truth, wisdom universally counteracts all faults, and its particular characteristics are also thus. It may also be said that, insofar as all faults are counteracted by wisdom, they are universally termed ignorance. (This concludes the third approach.)
