> Question: In relation to the noble, is there only non-differentiation, or is there also differentiation? Explanation: From the perspective of the noble, they also know those differentiations. Thus the Pañcaviṃśatisāhasrikā says: "If all phenomena are non-existent, why are there differentiations among the six destinies? The Buddha answered: Due to their inversion, there are differentiations and disparities among the six destinies." If so, the Buddha fully knows both the differentiation and non-differentiation of inversion. As for sentient beings, they only know differentiation and do not know non-differentiation. Next, in explaining 'ultimate' and 'supreme': the reason 'ultimate' is spoken is in contrast to the ordinary. The ordinary consider what they understand to be real; the Buddha designates it, saying: 'What you understand is inverted and not real; what the noble ones understand is real.' This is clarifying non-inversion in contrast to inversion, clarifying the real in contrast to the insubstantial, and clarifying the ultimate in contrast to the conventional. The 'supreme meaning' is in contrast to the ordinary not being supreme, clarifying that what the noble ones understand is supreme. When is it praised as supreme? In contrast to what is not supreme. Clarifying that if 'supreme' were praise, then clarifying the real in contrast to what is not real should also be praise. The cross-examinations run similarly.
