> At the end of last summer, Master Sheng first showed me your \*Treatise on the Unknowing \[of Prajñā\]\*. Its display of talent is lucid and outstanding, its central tenets profound and balanced; traversing the sacred texts, it is graceful and has true purpose. Unrolling and savoring it with dedication, I could not lay it down. It may truly be said that you have bathed your mind in the abyss of the vaipulya and awakened your reflections in the court of ultimate mystery! If this discernment is made thoroughly comprehended, then the numerous streams of prajñā will nearly converge without words. How could one not rejoice? How could one not rejoice? Now, when principles are subtle, words are perilous; when someone sings solo, few can harmonize. If one does not transcend the realm beyond words and images, will one not cause discord by preserving images? In my view, the section answering \[the query about\] seeking wisdom through conditions is subtly exhaustive, extremely refined and ingenious, leaving no room for objection. Yet the unenlightened find it difficult to understand all at once, and a couple of residual doubts still remain, which I now set down separately as follows. I trust that in your leisurely spare time, you may once more roughly elucidate them.
