> Fifth, clarifying emptiness with respect to names and realities. Within the text there are two parts: first, properly clarifying emptiness; later, citing scriptures and treatises to verify and establish it. Now, this is the first. When taking things through names, things are not the names, hence it is said that 'things have no reality corresponding to names.' 'If one seeks names through things, names lack the function of grasping things': when taking names through things, names are not the things, hence it is said that 'names lack the function of grasping things.' From 'Things have no reality corresponding to names' onward reviews the preceding clause. From 'Therefore names do not correspond to realities' onward again reviews the clause above. It simply clarifies that names are not realities and realities are not names. 'Names and realities having no correspondence, where are the myriad things?': if names do not correspond to realities, then names are not names; if realities do not correspond to names, then realities are not realities. Names and realities not corresponding, the myriad things are all empty, hence it is said: 'Where are they?' \*Anzai\* means 'where are they?'.
