> Though it only explains the latter passage, the former should also be understood accordingly. Although the sūtra speaks of form, its intent lies in the emptiness of form. Emptiness and purity are not different in meaning. Desiring to clarify that ultimate truth is animitta, it is not a condition that produces the knowing of prajñā. Now, facing the earlier question, it provisionally takes the known as the condition; thereafter, distinguishing truth from delusion, it ultimately reveals that ultimate truth is not a condition and true wisdom is not knowing. Explaining in fine detail to lead people to profound awakening—the skillful means lie in this! Liu Yimin said: "Unfolding and exhausting \[the subtle principle\], reaching the height of exquisite refinement." He may truly be said to have understood the words.
