- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [1.33](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1861.1.33)

> Seventh, regarding the broadness and brevity of the initial and subsequent \[minds\]: In some cases, the spontaneous and seeking minds are numerous while the commensurate flow mind is scarce, because initially many objects appear while subsequently few objects appear. In other cases, the spontaneous and seeking minds are scarce while the commensurate flow mind is numerous, because it is induced by the force of preceding defilement and purity, while objects of spontaneity and so forth are met with separately. The middle three minds are mostly spoken of with respect to the mental consciousness, without differentiating whether they are numerous or scarce. If in the result stage, whichever minds are present can all arise concurrently, as appropriate and without fault. Since it is accepted that in the cause stage the five consciousnesses possess all five minds, as appropriate all five minds can exist concurrently, their number being indefinite.
