> Seventh, regarding shared and unshared: The Cheng weishi lun states: 'Regarding the dharmatā land, because it is equally realized by all Tathāgatas, its substance has no distinction. As for the self-enjoyment land, although each of the Buddhas transforms it differently, they are all boundless and do not obstruct one another. The remaining two Buddha lands, in accordance with the sentient beings transformed by the Tathāgatas, are either shared or unshared. For those transformed who are shared, at the same place and the same time, according to what is appropriate, the Buddhas each transform it into a land; their shapes are similar and do not obstruct one another, intermingling mutually as an overriding condition to cause the beings transformed to manifest them from their own consciousnesses. That is, in one land there is one Buddha body displaying supernatural powers and expounding the Dharma for their benefit. For instance, if the sentient beings of this land are suited to hear Śākya, Maitreya, and Amitāyus, these Buddhas jointly transform it. As for those that are unshared, they are transformed by only one Buddha. Sentient beings from beginningless time by the nature of their lineages are mutually connected; either many belong to one, or one belongs to many. Just as Tiṣya Buddha caused Śākya Bodhisattva to surpass nine kalpas, and so forth, those beings who are transformed are either shared or unshared. Otherwise, if multiple Buddhas were to dwell long in the world, each toiling at their tasks, it would truly be without benefit, since one Buddha is capable of benefiting all beings. Therefore, the transformation land and other-enjoyment land are both shared and unshared.'
