> As for the four powers: through their own power and effort, the bodhisattvas are capable of deeply conceiving love and joy toward anuttarā samyaksambodhi: this is called the first. Through the power and effort of others, they deeply conceive love and joy toward great bodhi: this is called the second. Having past habituation in the wholesome dharmas associated with the Mahāyāna, now upon briefly seeing the Buddhas and bodhisattvas or briefly hearing their praise and extolment, they can swiftly arouse bodhicitta—how much more so if they witness prātihārya and hear the true Dharma: this is called the third. In the present life, they draw near to good persons, listen to the true Dharma, properly reflect, and cultivate various wholesome dharmas for a long time; through this prayoga, they arouse bodhicitta: this is called the fourth power.
