- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [1.26](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1862.1.26)

> This arises from four powers: first, the power of friends, meaning the arousal of the thought through following along with a kalyāṇamitra; second, the power of causes, meaning that in past lives having once aroused the thought serves as the nature; third, the power of faculties, meaning fulfillment by having practiced wholesome roots in the past; fourth, the power of hearing, meaning that when the Dharma is preached in various places, immeasurable sentient beings arouse bodhicitta. In the second \[fascicle\] of the Prakaraṇāryavācā, the conventional arousal of the thought is described as follows: for instance, there is a class \[of practitioners\] who stand respectfully before a wise person, give rise to a superior mind, and make a vow, saying: 'May the Venerable Elder be mindful of me (or saying: May the Noble One be mindful of me, or saying: Upādhyāya). I, named so-and-so, from this day forth, arouse the mind directed toward anuttarā \[samyak\]bodhi, for the sake of benefiting sentient beings. From this day forward, I vow that all the ten thousand practices of the six pāramitās cultivated by me shall all be for the sake of realizing unexcelled bodhi. I now join in harmony with all bodhisattva mahāsattvas to leave household life; may the Venerable One bear witness that I am a bodhisattva.' The second and third \[repetitions\] are also like this.
