> The second fascicle of the \*Maitreya-paripṛcchā-śāstra\* states: "Bodhisattva-mahāsattvas possess five kinds of dharmas that surpass the śrāvakas' courses of ten wholesome actions. First is dedicated practice, because they never part from a single-minded intention. Second is constant practice, because it is uninterrupted, unceasing, and without rest. Third is for the sake of securing peace and security for oneself, because they obtain a human or celestial body for themselves, obtaining celestial and human peace and security as well as great bodhi. Fourth is for the sake of securing peace and security for others, because they dedicate \[their merit\] toward great bodhi definitively in order to grant peace and security to all sentient beings. Fifth is wholesome purity, which again has seven kinds: (1) unbroken, for partial cultivation is called broken, whereas complete cultivation is called unbroken; (2) unstained, for not cultivating oneself while instructing others to cultivate is called stained, whereas the bodhisattva cultivates oneself and instructs others to cultivate, hence called unstained; (3) undefiled, for neither cultivating oneself nor instructing others to cultivate, yet seeing others cultivate and rejoicing in mind, is called defiled, hence the bodhisattva who cultivates completely is called undefiled; (4) non-dependent, for needing to rely on the wisdom of others in order to be able to cultivate is called dependent, hence the bodhisattva who can cultivate without relying on the wisdom of others is called non-dependent; (5) well-consummated, for single-minded focus on the definitive aspirational mind and the like is called well-consummated; (6) non-consuming, for dedicating toward existence and taking up the requisites of existence is called consuming, hence the bodhisattva who does not grasp at existence is called non-consuming; (7) praised by the wise: abandoning the two vehicles to dedicate toward the mundane, or abandoning the Great Vehicle to dedicate toward the Small Vehicle, is called not praised by the wise, hence the bodhisattva who, within the two vehicles, does not dedicate toward the mundane, and within the Great Vehicle, does not dedicate toward the two vehicles, is called praised by the wise.
