> 2. The gate of presence and absence within each other: that is, either all enter into the one, because the one lacks intrinsic nature, taking dharma-nature as the one. Furthermore, since all phenomena are identical to dharma-nature, therefore all are together within the one without being identical to each other. Or, they are not present in the one: that is, because of lacking intrinsic nature, one and many are transcended; because their existence is not destroyed, they are mutually uncommingled; though constantly interpenetrating, they abide in their own positions. Or, both: that is, subtle mutual interpenetration is constantly outside; being ten thousand miles distant, they are constantly present within each other; mutual presence and absence are a single phenomenon, on account of unobstructedness. Or, neither: that is, because entering and emerging are integrated, transcending the two characteristics, there is neither presence nor absence, yet this phenomenon remains difficult to name. Just as all entering into one possesses these four propositions, one entering into all should also be considered by analogy.
