> Although the essence of the above meanings is empty and pure, it relies on practices and vows to adorn the real; though its nature encompasses \[all\], it opens and manifests in dependence upon wisdom. Therefore, its essence is called fundamentally existent, while its practice is described as arising from cultivation. Arising is itself non-arising, returning to identity with the fundamental essence; the essence is also not an essence, again equal to what arises from cultivation. How could essence ever obstruct arising, or arising lose essence? Grasping the meaning and forgetting words, a thousand li is but half a step; how could this be spoken of in the same breath with those who are ignorant of the Path!
