> First, "contemplating the twelve links of pratītyasamutpāda": being deluded by the names and characteristics on the dust mote and failing to understand its lack of essence is the condition of avidyā. The mind's contriving arising on the dust mote is the condition of saṃskāra. The discriminating mind constantly turning and flowing on the dust mote is the condition of vijñāna. Deluded consciousness relying \[on it\] and forming seeds on the dust mote is the condition of nāmarūpa. The six sense faculties receiving and entering on the dust mote is the condition of the ṣaḍāyatana. The sense faculties and dust mote facing one another is the condition of sparśa. Receiving the sense object of the dust mote is the condition of vedanā. Pleasurable sensations moistening themselves on the dust mote is the condition of tṛṣṇā. Failing to understand that it is empty on the dust mote is the condition of upādāna. Craving accumulating into karma on the dust mote is the condition of bhava. When karma matures and gives rise to the body of the five aggregates on the dust mote, this is the condition of jāti. Names and characteristics changing and decaying on the dust mote is the condition of jarāmaraṇa. Now, realizing that the names and characteristics of the dust mote are quiescently empty, the mind does not condition \[them\]; at the very moment of realization, conditions are naturally tranquil and extinguished.
