> Tenth, "departing from bondage and liberation": clinging to the characteristics of arising and ceasing on the dust mote is bondage; realizing that the characteristics of arising and ceasing cannot be apprehended is liberation. As a sūtra says: "With wisdom, skillful means are liberation; without wisdom, skillful means are bondage." Merely realizing that characteristics are not characteristics, one is always liberated from bondage; if one abides in animitta, liberation is still bondage. Realizing that delusion has no essence, bondage is not bondage. Bondage being already non-bondage, liberation is also non-liberation. As a sūtra says: "All dharmas have no bondage, because they are fundamentally liberated. All dharmas have no liberation, because they are fundamentally without bondage."
