> Ninth, clarifying contracting and expanding: the dust mote has no intrinsic nature, and its entire essence fully pervades the ten directions, which is expanding; the ten directions have no intrinsic essence, and according to conditions they fully appear within the dust mote, which is contracting. The sūtra says: 'Filling the ten directions with a single buddha-land, / The ten directions entering into the one also leave no remainder.' Now, in contracting, all phenomena appear within a single dust mote; in expanding, a single dust mote pervades all places. Expanding is constantly contracting, because a single dust mote gathers all; contracting is constantly expanding, because all gathers a single dust mote. This is the ease of contracting and expanding.
