Now, when the one is viewed in relation to the many, there is gathering the other and discarding oneself, mutual identity, and preservation and cessation; this also has ten meanings. First: this dharma gathers the other to be identical with oneself; hence oneself is preserved. Second: it discards oneself to be identical with the other; hence oneself is eradicated. Third: gathering and discarding both appear; hence it is both preserved and eradicated. Fourth: because the two meanings completely negate each other, both are negated. Fifth: not exhausting oneself to be identical with the other means there is no self exhausting the other to be identical with oneself; therefore, being eradicated is constantly preserved. Sixth: the inverse of the above phrase; thus being preserved is constantly eradicated. Seventh: because the two meanings are not separated from each other, preserved-as-eradicated and eradicated-as-preserved appear together.
