> "Rolling up the bamboo blinds, the autumn light is cold; / Opening the window, the summer heat turns clear and cool."
> This verse refers to the Forest Bell, which is the pitch-pipe of the sixth month; hence the north wind is taken to bring cool. This is treated in the same manner as the triple gate, Buddha hall, exposed pillar, and lantern. Since we are discussing the host within the host, who dares to utter its name? One must have the secret intent of mutual interchanging, not violating the direct confrontation. Dongshan said: "If only one can avoid offending the taboo of the present reign, / It surpasses the talent of the previous dynasty that had its tongue cut off."
