> The Record of Zhen states: "Why rely on the seal? Answer: Wishing to express that which is subsumed by Śākyamuni Tathāgata's net of teaching..." This means that although the net of Śākyamuni's teaching differs in depth, it is referred to comprehensively across all realms of names and marks. "The three realms emerge in profusion from the ocean seal samādhi": when the phenomena of the three realms emerge in profusion, do they depart from the essential substance of the ocean seal? Answer: The phenomena of the three realms are the manifesting of the entire substance of the ocean seal; fundamentally they never depart from it. Question: Subsuming the three realms constitutes the universal characteristic; since the Buddha involves both universal and particular without being identical, does this make four realms? Answer: In the realm of correct enlightenment of wisdom, there is both a relative sense \[dependent on others\] and an absolute sense. In terms of these two senses not being identical, one could also speak of four realms. However, because in terms of these two senses they are not distinct, it simply speaks of three realms. Question: It is proper for the receptacle and sentient beings to be called 'realms'; since the correctly enlightened of wisdom has already transcended the world, why is it called a 'realm' (lokadhātu)? Answer: At the very time of initially realizing correct enlightenment, the phenomena of the three realms manifest in complete clarity and fullness; hence it is called 'realm', meaning that 'time' is the world (\*loka\*) and 'within' is the realm (\*dhātu\*). Question: Master Zhixiang subsumed bodhisattvas under sentient beings; why are Buddhas and bodhisattvas combined here into the correctly enlightened of wisdom? Answer: They are so referred to because their enlightenment is identical.
