> Fa's Record says: Regarding "without arising from a single stage, universally gathering in the merits of all stages," and so forth: here it directly clarifies the phenomena of pratītyasamutpāda, and therefore says that one gathers in all. Question: If in terms of pratītyasamutpāda's complete fulfillment without side phenomena, then that one word would already suffice; why must one redundantly say "universally gather in"? Answer: In reality it is like this—simply saying "one stage" is sufficient; it is only said in accord \[with convention\].
