> Next, explaining the avoidance of faults in exchanging and trading. If it is traded for using originally pure wealth, that is best. If one has inevitably transgressed regarding surplus money and valuables, and uses them to trade for robe material: according to the Vinaya, "When trading for new cloth after an offense of forfeiture \[of robes\], provided one repents the previous offense, the substance of the robe is undefiled"; one can apply this analogously. If one trades for the goods oneself, one must not haggle over the price with laypeople as if practicing the ways of the marketplace. If one sends a kappiyakāraka, no harm is done either. Some say: "If pure wealth is touched by the hand, it becomes impure." This is not a vinaya prescription, but merely an erroneous rumor spread by people (it only incurs an offense of taking hold of treasure; it does not defile the substance of the wealth).
