Furthermore, this compassion and loving-kindness is the king among all wholesome deeds and the refuge of all sentient beings. It is like the sun illuminating the day and the moon illuminating the night; it is an eye and a guide to people, a parent and a sibling to people; together turning to the bodhicitha, it is a true kalyāṇamitra. The closeness of compassion and loving-kindness is weightier than flesh and blood; following one another life after life, even in death it does not part.
