When Zhizhe was born, light filled the room, and his eyes displayed double pupils. He practiced the Lotus Sūtra repentance, unlocked dhāraṇī, and on behalf of his master preached the golden-character Prajñā\[-pāramitā Sūtra\]. The two states of Chen and Sui honoured him as Imperial Preceptor. He passed away in serene meditation, his rank abiding in the five ranks. Therefore the sūtra says: "If one were to give seven treasures to the people of four hundred myriad nayutas of lands, each and every one, and furthermore transform them so that they attain the six supernormal powers, it would not equal a hundred, a thousand, or a myriad times that of a person who at first rejoices in accord." How much more so the five ranks! The text says: "He is the Tathāgata's emissary, dispatched by the Tathāgata, carrying out the Tathāgata's deeds."
