> Second, explaining the differences in the Dharmas adhered to by wrong people: the Guanzhong commentary says, "Each master has three kinds of methods: first, the method of attaining all-knowledge; second, the method of attaining supernormal powers; third, the method of attaining the Vedas." As for all-knowledge, each gives rise to a kind of view regarding what they hold; with a luminous and sharp understanding, they apply this view and knowledge to penetrate all phenomena, hence they are called "all-knowledge tīrthikas." As for the method of supernormal powers, they arouse and attain the five supernormal powers: turning a city into salt, transforming Śakra into a sheep, halting a river inside an ear, and touching the sun and moon; these are called "supernormal power tīrthikas." As for the method of the Vedas, they are able to understand worldly writing, astrology, medicine, military tactics, and commerce; these are "Vedic tīrthikas." Thus, for one master there are three different kinds of attainments. Vātsīputrīya and the Fangguang are also like this.
