- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [3.81](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1911.3.81)

> This explains the characteristics of the three calmings and three contemplations according to the Mahāyāna; as the meanings follow the characteristics, each is distinctly differentiated. If one discusses the three contemplations, there are the provisional and the real, the shallow and the deep; if one discusses the three wisdoms, there are the superior and the inferior, the earlier and the later; if one discusses the three kinds of persons, there are various stages, greater and lesser. This is a graduated differentiation, not what is applied here.
