- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [5.186](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1911.5.186)

> If breaking inconceivable afflictions, this is simply avidyā. Due to avidyā there is arising; due to arising there is avidyā. Avidyā cannot be apprehended, and arising also cannot be apprehended. Now spitting upon and breaking all of them, it says "arising cannot be apprehended." If breaking inconceivable understanding, this is simply the perfect understanding. Perfect understanding determines cause and effect from beginning to end. The principle is not universally perfect, nor is it beginning and end; how could there be cause and effect? Now spitting upon and breaking all of them, it says "non-arising cannot be apprehended." Applying the meaning of that sūtra to explain how the gate of non-arising breaks phenomena completely, its meaning becomes distinct and clear.
