- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [5.236](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1911.5.236)

> If the subsequent thought arises when the prior thought has ceased: arising from the unceased prior thought was called self-nature; now arising due to cessation, viewing the unceased in relation to cessation, is this not other-nature? Does it arise because there is arising within the cessation that is other-nature, or because there is no arising? If there is arising, it is an arising, yet arising and cessation are mutually contradictory; this would be arising producing arising, so how could it be cessation producing arising? If cessation lacks arising, how could nonexistence produce anything? If cessation possesses a nature of arising, the nature is refuted as before.
