- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [6.172](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1911.6.172)

> Third, seeking the Buddha's wisdom: this is the Tathāgata's knowing through sarvākārajñatā and seeing through the Buddha eye—vast, deep, and far-reaching, awakening to and understanding horizontally and vertically, ultimately complete. The eye and wisdom of the previous two contemplations, compared to the Buddha-dharma, are like a blind person imagining a drawing in the dark: he cannot see it. Falling into pits and ditches, how could he advance? If one cultivates the middle way, it is as if having eyes and feet: arriving at the cool and refreshing pond, one eliminates the feverish distress of the two extremes; awakening and resting, one drinks its water, which is cold, smooth, fragrant, and sweet—this is called 'knowing through the Buddha's wisdom'. Seeing the pond's characteristics of squareness or roundness, depth or shallowness, and the clarity and purity of the water—this is called 'seeing through the Buddha eye'. Wishing to attain the Tathāgata's eye and wisdom of true reality, it cannot be accomplished without calming and contemplation; therefore, one cultivates the third contemplation.
