Such four propositions are themselves the gateway of contemplation; apart from these four, there is no place to cultivate contemplation. By skillful means, accessing through the gateway, one penetrates and comes to see the middle way; when seeing the middle way, it is not identical to the four contemplations. If one gains entry through a single contemplation, the remaining propositions instantly blend, with no need to cultivate them further. If one has not yet penetrated and entered, one must simply cultivate the four propositions diligently and grasp awakening through skillful means.
