- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [9.10](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1911.9.10)

> Regarding the sixteen superior excellences and total brightness: when a Buddha does not appear in the world, sharp-rooted ordinary people also cultivate these dhyānas, yet do not generate the untainted; if the Tathāgata expounds them, they also generate the untainted. Compared to the other dhyānas, although their power is weak, they are notably superior to the fundamental \[dhyānas\]. For this reason, they are called 'both tainted and untainted.'
