> "The Dharma was transmitted to Jayata." For a monk who had committed a grave offense while bringing food to his sister-in-law, Jayata transformed a fire pit to make him enter and repent; Jayata preached the Dharma, the sin was eliminated, and the monk attained arhatship. People of the time called Jayata the Pure Vinaya Master. He saw, beside a great city, a hungry ghost who had received no food for five hundred years; he also saw a young crow who had originally been his child who had obstructed his leaving the household life, and for five hundred years had failed to attain the fruit of the Way.
