> Second, the dhyāna of all \[aspects\], in which there are again two: first, worldly; second, transworldly. Both worldly and transworldly each have three kinds: first, blissful abiding in the present phenomenon; second, giving rise to the virtues of samādhi; third, benefiting sentient beings. Third, difficult dhyāna, which has three: first, the difficulty of relinquishing dhyāna to be born in the desire realm; second, the difficulty of possessing all virtues surpassing the two vehicles; third, the difficulty of attaining bodhi relying on dhyāna. Fourth, the dhyāna of all gates, which has four: namely, the four dhyānas. Fifth, the dhyāna of good persons, which has five: namely, the four immeasurables and non-attachment. Sixth, the dhyāna of all practices, which has thirteen (and so forth). Seventh, the dhyāna that eliminates distress, which has eight. Eighth, the dhyāna of this world and other worlds, which has nine. Ninth, the dhyāna free from views, which has ten. Of the hundred and eight samādhis, Śūraṅgama stands at their head; their names appear in the Dapin, and the Dazhidulun explains them broadly. The eighteen emptinesses are explained broadly in the fifth fascicle. As for the ten similes, the verse says: "Illusion, mirage, moon, sky, echo, / gandharva city, dream, shadow, reflection, transformation"—they are briefly explained later. As for the five hundred dhāraṇīs, with the retention of what is heard at their head, their names appear in the Dapin, and the Dazhidulun also explains them.
