> First, rebuking desire for forms: that is, the dignified features of men and women, slender eyes and long eyebrows, vermilion lips and white teeth; as well as worldly treasures, blue, yellow, red, white, crimson, purple, azure, and green, and various exquisite forms. When foolish people see them, desire arises, and they commit various bad deeds. For example, King Bimbisāra, because of desire for forms, entered an enemy state in person and stayed in the chamber of the courtesan Āmrapālī. King Udayana, because of sensual infatuation with forms, cut off the hands and feet of five hundred ṛṣis. Such are the various kinds of faults and offenses.
