> "Birth and death are never cut off
> Because of greed, desire, and craving for tastes.
> Nourishing the enemy and entering the grave mounds,
> One endures all bitterness and toil in vain.
> The body is foul-smelling like a corpse,
> Its nine orifices oozing impurities.
> Just as a worm in a latrine delights in dung,
> The foolish person's body is no different.
> The wise should contemplate the body
> And not greedily defile themselves with worldly pleasures;
> Free of burdens and with nothing desired—
> This is called true Nirvāṇa.
> As the Buddhas have taught,
> Practicing with single mind and single intent,
> Counting breaths in dhyāna-concentration—
> This is called practicing ascetic austerities (dhūta)."
