> When the practitioner cultivates this contemplation, if the afflictions of the desire realm have not ceased, they should abide in this contemplation for a long time, making the mind of disgust fully ripened. If free from craving, at that time they should proceed to contemplate the white bones. With single-minded calm and stability, they carefully contemplate between the eyebrows, imagining the skin and flesh splitting open, seeing white bone the size of a fingernail, distinctly clear. Next, directing the mind upward, they split open the skin and flesh, immediately seeing the frontal bone and the hairline bone split wide open, directly seeing the mark of the bone. Further, they contemplate the parietal bone, also seeing the skin and flesh fall away, and the skull bone emerging. Further, steadying the mind, from the head downward, they imagine the skin and flesh gradually peeling away to the feet in accordance with their mind. The skin and flesh having peeled away, they see only a skeleton with joints supporting one another, sitting upright and motionless.
