> Answer: This is a path of resolute belief; it is a transformation of mental power, not a contemplation of the real. Why is this? All things are not truly pure, yet due to the power of the inversion of purity, one ultimately sees them all as pure and gives rise to greed and attachment. Although not everything is completely impure, now, through the wisdom-power of the contemplation of impurity, one sees them all as impure and destroys the defilements—what fault is there in this? Just as when the kalpa-ending fire arises, all of the great earth, sentient and insentient, of various kinds, all become flames due to the power of the fire. Now, contemplating all the world with an impure mind, one sees everything as impure, just as a person with supernormal powers turns tiles and stones into gold and jade. One should know: what fixed nature do phenomena possess? That teacher explained it in this way.
