> Answer: Although the five names are few, their practices connect to all dhyānas. Why is this? 1. As for the gate of ānāpāna, this connects to the fundamental \[dhyānas\] as well as the sublime practices, penetrating clarity, and other dhyāna-samādhis; 2. As for the gate of contemplation of impurity, this connects to the nine notions, liberations, transcending, and other dhyāna-samādhis; 3. As for the gate of the mind of loving-kindness, this connects to the four immeasurables and other dhyāna-samādhis; 4. As for the gate of causes and conditions, this connects to the twelve causes and conditions, the four truths, and other dhyāna-samādhis of wisdom practice; 5. As for the gate of mindfulness of the Buddha, this connects to the nine kinds of dhyāna and the one hundred and eight samādhis.
