- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [5.58](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1916.5.58)

> Although these eight have sixteen varieties, all arise in relation to the four great elements and are generated through the four great elements: the four within earth are heaviness, sinking, hardness, and roughness; the four within water are coolness, coldness, softness, and slipperiness; the four within fire are warmth, heat, peaceful ease, and itching; the four within wind are movement, restlessness, lightness, and buoyancy. Therefore the Suvarṇaprabhāsa says: 'The two serpents of earth and water, their nature is to sink downward; the two serpents of wind and fire, their nature is light and ascends.'
