> Furthermore, the Buddha knew that disciples in future generations would have dull faculties, would make distinctions and become attached to phenomena, and would erroneously explain the marks of the four immeasurables, \[saying\] that these four immeasurable minds are known by the noble ones, but because their conditions are sentient beings, they are only defiled; and because their conditions are only the desire realm, they do not exist in the formless realm. Why? Because the formless realm does not take the desire realm as a condition. To cut off such false views of people, he spoke of the four immeasurable minds. Because in the formless realm one also universally takes the sentient beings of the ten directions as conditions through the four immeasurable minds, it is not reiterated that one does not take the formless realm as a condition. Those who speak in this way mostly dwell on conditionality on dharmas and non-conditionality.
