> Second, "the notion of suffering": the practitioner should contemplate in this manner: if all dharmas with remainder are impermanent and changing, this itself is the notion of suffering. Why is this? From the coming together of the six internal sense faculties and the six external sense objects, the six kinds of consciousness are produced. Within the six kinds of consciousness, three kinds of feeling are produced: namely, painful feeling, pleasant feeling, and neutral feeling. Within these three kinds of feeling, one is pressed and afflicted by the eight sufferings of birth, old age, sickness, death, separation from the loved, not getting what one seeks, meeting the hateful, and the flourishing of the five aggregates; therefore it is called suffering.
