> Answer: Kāśyapa was one who attained realization, yet he still said: "All prior to this were called people of false views." How much more so is it for ordinary worldly thinking and scheming to claim that it is not a view! If one claims it is not a view, one should now attain the holy fruit. If one has not attained it and claims to have attained it, this is haughtiness; one cannot yet discuss the Way with such a person. If one examines the mind with hand on chest before attaining the Way, even through a thousand layers and ten thousand folds, cutting off speech and exhausting a hundred propositions, how could it not be a view? For instance, Dīrghanakha contemplated all dharmas for a long time without a single dharma entering his mind, and challenged the Buddha, saying: "I accept no dharma." How could this not be confused with the Great Vehicle's samādhi of non-acceptance? Even Dīrghanakha, with his sharp faculties, did not recognize that his view-mind was suffering and accumulation; how much less could ordinary, shallow people today recognize it?
