> Ninth, explaining calm forbearance: being able to patiently endure the matters of accomplishing the path, immovable and non-retrogressing. This mind is called sattva. From contemplating the mind in a single thought-moment as the inconceivable realm up to the eighth, explaining the recognition of the stages of rank, the obstacles and delusions are turned around, the wisdom-mind unfolds, or one attains advancement and awakening in a single stage, one's spiritual intelligence becoming lucid, one's wisdom-mind sharp and keen, surpassing the edge of a blade. Though not originally having studied, one can thoroughly see through the sūtras and treatises; wishing to explain a single matter, one's eloquence cannot be exhausted, as if the sun and moon were in one's chest and one held a treasure storehouse in one's heart. If one can conceal and contain one's understanding, this is called diligent spurring. Cultivating internally, one will certainly advance further. But if the awl does not stay in the bag, and one cannot calmly endure, one might be inflated by others, leading assemblies in praise and exposition, also claiming there is benefit. Yet if one's practice is not yet firm, one will certainly be ruined by the eight winds. Therefore, next calm forbearance is explained.
