> Third is the hindrance of drowsiness and sleep. The muddled torpor of mental consciousness is called drowsiness; the dim obscurity of the five senses is called sleep. If the mind relies on the indeterminate, it fosters ignorance, so that the mental consciousness becomes muddled and dull, and the five senses become dark and obscure, perceiving nothing; this is called drowsiness and sleep. The Sarvāstivādins explain it as an added mental factor (caitasika), which is still subsumed under the fifteen delusion anuśayas severed by seeing \[the truths\] and by cultivation.
