> First is the immeasurable mind of loving-kindness. The mind capable of granting happiness to others is called 'loving-kindness'. When a practitioner in meditative absorption thinks of sentient beings to make them attain happiness, meditative absorption arises among the mental factors; this is called the meditative absorption of loving-kindness. This mind associated with loving-kindness is free of anger, free of hatred, free of enmity, and free of vexation; when skillfully cultivated and realized, it is vast, immeasurable, and pervades the ten directions; hence it is called the immeasurable mind of loving-kindness.
