> Fourth is the immeasurable mind of equanimity. The mind that is free of hatred and love when focused on others is called 'equanimity'. When a practitioner in meditative absorption thinks of sentient beings, wishing that all alike attain freedom from hatred and love, like realizing nirvāṇa, tranquil and pure—when thinking thus, meditative absorption arises among the mental factors; this is called the meditative absorption of equanimity. This mind associated with equanimity is free of anger, free of hatred, free of enmity, and free of vexation; when skillfully cultivated and realized, it is vast, immeasurable, and pervades the ten directions; this is the immeasurable mind of equanimity.
