Third, the lion's stride samādhi. Regarding the lion's stride samādhi: when a bodhisattva attains this samādhi, entering and emerging slowly or quickly among all samādhis are all done with autonomy. For example, when the beasts are sporting, if they see a lion, all are terrified and restrain themselves. When the lion sports among the herds of beasts, it kills the strong and releases the submissive. The bodhisattva is also like this: attaining this samādhi, among the non-Buddhists, they destroy the strong and deliver those with faith; therefore, it is called the lion's stride samādhi. The remaining one hundred and four samādhis should also be understood in this way; they appear fully in the Dazhidulun. If one wishes to know them, one should consult that treatise.
