> (The original text says: 'This further surpasses the theory of attaining the marrow. Even if Master Huike's view reached this in intention, his words were not yet perfect.' Question: 'In now clarifying the perfect teaching, does it not discuss severing delusions to realize principle and overturning delusion to approach awakening? If it discusses them, how is it different from the understanding of Zongchi and Daoyu?' Answer: 'Just like Master Huike, did he not also sever delusions and overturn delusion? Was he also the same as the former two? Hence we know that whenever gradual and sudden are distinguished, it is merely discussing the rationale of what is able to sever and what is able to overturn.')
