初、標。因果名通，今就開顯唯約圓論。因從博地至等覺還，果唯妙覺，雖通傳立，約極義彊。三千實相未顯名因，顯則名果，隱顯雖殊始終常即，故名不二。門義如前。

> First, the heading. The names 'cause' and 'effect' are general; here, with respect to opening and revealing, it is discussed solely in terms of the perfect \[teaching\]. Cause extends from the stage of ordinary beings up to equal enlightenment; effect is solely wondrous enlightenment. Although established successively throughout, it is strongest when considered in terms of the ultimate meaning. The three thousand realms of the true mark, when not yet manifest, are called cause; when manifest, they are called effect. Although concealment and manifestation differ, beginning and end are constantly identical; therefore it is called nondual. The meaning of 'gate' is as before.
