> Fourth, explaining the \[other\] nine abidances by analogy: When the three contemplations manifest before \[the bodhisattva of\] this first abidance without intentional effort, in thought after thought they sever incalculable, immeasurable grades of ignorance of the dharmadhātu. Broadly divided in general terms, they are briefly taken as ten grades of wisdom and severing, which are the ten abidances. Thus the Renwang jing says: "Entering the prajñā of principle is called 'abidance'"; this refers to advancing and developing the untainted true brightness in ten rounds, together entering the principle of the middle way, Buddha-nature, and paramārtha-satya. By means of non-abiding dharmas, abiding in the principle of the Buddha's three virtues of nirvāṇa from shallow to deep is abiding in all Buddha-dharmas in ten grades; hence they are named the ten abidances.
